Do you know how much a brand-new Honda Civic costs right now? The 2026 model of the popular Japanese compact sedan starts at $31,492, including all applicable fees. For the Civic hatchback, the price is $35,352. That doesn’t stop it from being the best-selling car in Canada. In fact, many customers are opting for the more expensive hybrid versions, which start at $37,247.

2019–2022 Volvo S60
Now discontinued, the S60 is an elegant sedan that embodies Scandinavian luxury and refinement in a compact package similar in size to the Civic. The latest generation debuted as a 2019 model, and we’ve found examples for $30,000 or less, including a few with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing over 300 horsepower. All of these have under 70,000 km on the odometer. Volvo’s spotty reliability is still a major drawback, though.
2019–2021 BMW 3 Series
Another sedan the size of a Civic, this one is more fun to drive than the S60 and typically a bit more expensive due to lower depreciation. You’ll have to accept higher mileage (often around 100,000 km), but it’s entirely possible to find a current-generation 3 Series for under $30,000. Under the hood, the turbocharged 4-cylinder engine delivers just over 250 horsepower and is fuel-efficient.
2020 Genesis G80
Hyundai has transformed its former high-end Genesis sedan into a luxury brand, with the G80, its first model, debuting as a 2017 model. Over the years, this car has offered a level of features comparable to those of the major German brands at a significantly lower price. Today, you can find six- to ten-year-old G80s for less than a new Civic… and with a 3.8-liter V6 producing 311 horsepower under the hood!
2012–2014 Audi A8
The third generation of Audi’s full-size luxury sedan could be yours right now for the same price as a brand-new 2016 Civic… No joke.
