
Record for the Nissan Qashqai e-Power: 1,980 km on a single tank of fuel
The Nissan Qashqai has not been sold here since 2023, but its e-Power electrification technology will be available by the end of the year in the next-generation 2027 Rogue Hybrid. That’s why we’ve decided to tell you about a recent achievement by the former.
From July 14 to 17, a Qashqai e-Power traveled from the Colombian city of Bogotá to the Caribbean coast without ever stopping to refuel. The journey, covering no less than 1,980 km, sets a new record for “an electric SUV with extended range that does not require a charging plug,” as certified by Guinness World Records.
It’s important to note that the vehicle uses only an electric motor to power its wheels. The energy comes from a 2.1-kWh high-voltage battery that can be recharged while driving via a gasoline engine (a 1.5-liter three-cylinder) acting as a generator. There is no transmission and no external port for connecting a charging cable.
Given that the gas tank holds 55 liters, that works out to an average fuel consumption of just 2.78 L/100 km. Incredible, isn't it?
As Nissan notes, its Qashqai e-Power traversed a wide variety of terrains, climates, and driving conditions during its record-breaking journey in Colombia. It had previously demonstrated its endurance during several challenges in the United Kingdom and Tasmania.
e-Power and the Rogue
The latest (third) generation of Nissan’s e-Power system consists of an advanced modular powertrain known as the “5-in-1” system, which integrates the electric motor, generator, inverter, reduction gear, and multiplier into a compact and highly efficient unit. Combined with regenerative braking technology, this system continuously optimizes energy usage to maximize fuel efficiency without compromising driving pleasure, according to the manufacturer.

Then, during a trip to Japan, our colleague Antoine Joubert had the opportunity to briefly test-drive a camouflaged prototype, and its performance left him with a truly impressive first impression.
There are many advantages: superior power, smoother acceleration, no annoying CVT, one-pedal driving, precise steering, smooth braking (thanks in particular to a technology called Smooth Stop), and a very quiet cabin. As for fuel economy, Nissan promises that the Rogue Hybrid will be 20% more fuel-efficient than the current model, or about 6 L/100 km. It remains to be seen how this holds up in everyday driving.
