Video: This Koenigsegg Is the World's Fastest LEGO Car
Do you remember the brand-new Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear that was unveiled about a year ago? The one that produces 1,625 chevaux and will be limited to 30 units? It’s now much more accessible thanks to a LEGO Technic version, the sixth model in the 1:8 scale “Ultimate Car Concept” series.
The 4,104-piece set measures nearly 60 cm long and faithfully reproduces the car, including a V8 engine, a nine-speed sequential transmission, a steering wheel with paddle shifters, Triplex suspension, and a rotating display that shows the selected gear. There’s even a “Ghost Mode” that, with a single motion, lifts the front hood, the doors, and the rear hatch to reveal the car’s inner workings.
Orders will open on July 1 for LEGO Insiders members and three days later for the general public. The Canadian price is set at $629.99, no less. As a bonus, through July 6 (or while supplies last), buyers will receive a free 228-piece replica of the Sadair's Spear steering wheel.
To promote the set, LEGO and Koenigsegg teamed up to build a full-scale replica and took it for a spin on the Goodwood track in England, where the famous Festival of Speed is held every summer. Driven by Koenigsegg’s official test driver, Markus Lundh, it reached 111 km/h, shattering the previous record of 50 km/h for a LEGO Technic car (set by a McLaren P1).
The LEGO Sadair's Spear weighs approximately 1,800 kg, 400 kg of which is accounted for by the 327,906 LEGO bricks it is made of. The design and assembly took more than 9,400 hours of work, including the development of the mechanical systems.
