The sporty Kia EV5 GT is coming to Canada
Kia is adding a tenth trim level to the lineup of the all-new 2027 EV5 electric SUV, which, as a reminder, is only available in Canada and not in the United States. This will be the sportiest and also the most expensive trim level in the lineup.
We’re talking about the EV5 GT, which adopts the design language of the larger EV9 GT, featuring a neon green finish on the brake calipers, certain seat trim elements (made of synthetic leather and suede-like fabric), and the dashboard, as well as the GT button on the steering wheel. This button allows drivers to boost the vehicle’s performance on demand.
The exterior color options include Pearlescent Snow White, Gravity Gray, Fusion Black, Silver Ivory, Magma Red, and Deep Ocean Blue. The 20-inch alloy wheels are fitted with high-grip Michelin tires.
Using the larger of the two available batteries, the 81.4 kWh version, the Kia EV5 GT delivers 302 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. That’s more than other all-wheel-drive models, which produce 261 horsepower and 284 lb-ft, but less than a Hyundai IONIQ 5, Ford Mustang Mach-E, or even a Toyota bZ/Subaru Solterra, for example. In fact, it compares directly to a dual-motor Chevrolet Equinox EV.
Naturally, the range takes a hit, dropping from 439 to 402 km according to Kia’s estimates. Although it remains above the psychological threshold of 400 km, it’s easy to imagine that many potential buyers will decide to pass on the EV5 GT.
And that’s not even mentioning the price. When Kia Canada opened orders on July 15, it announced that the vehicle will start at $66,247, including fees. That’s a hefty sum. Of course, you have to factor in the $5,000 federal subsidy available for the four entry-level trim levels with MSRPs under $50,000.
