The most affordable car on the market is leaving us

November 11, 2025 — Written by The Car Guide

The Nissan Versa is bowing out. The Car Guide has learned from a spokesperson for the manufacturer that production of the subcompact sedan ceased in September.

As a result, there won't be a 2026 model. Dealers are currently busy selling off the remaining 2025 models in their lots.

The Versa was not only the only subcompact car still on the Canadian market, but also the most affordable new vehicle in the country, with an all-inclusive price of $23,415 (before taxes).

With 3,344 units sold in the first three quarters of 2025, Versa sales were up 45% compared to the same period in 2024. Its 1.6-liter inline four-cylinder engine producing 122 horsepower made it one of the slowest and most fuel-efficient vehicles (excluding hybrid models), with an average fuel consumption of 6.8 L/100 km.

Starting now, Nissan Canada is betting on attracting budget-conscious consumers with its new 2026 Sentra, expected at dealerships by the end of the year but whose prices remain unknown at the time of writing. Let's not forget the Kicks crossover, available starting at $29,991.

Incidentally, the Sentra and Kicks are both manufactured in the same plant that produced the Versa, in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

Following the departure of the Versa, the least expensive new vehicle in Canada is now the Hyundai Venue, with the 2026 model starting at $24,971.
