The Dodge Durango gets a 6.4-liter HEMI V8
For an SUV now in its 16th year in its current form, the Dodge Durango is far from on its last legs. In fact, it sold more units in Canada than the Honda Pilot in 2025.
Today, the company announced a major change for 2026: the 6.4-liter HEMI V8 will be offered as standard equipment on the R/T model for the first time, replacing the 5.7-liter HEMI.
This mid-range Durango now delivers 475 horsepower (up from 360) and 470 lb-ft of torque (up from 390). The powertrain is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Its 0-to-60 mph (97 km/h) acceleration time drops from 6.2 to 4.4 seconds, according to Dodge, but the maximum towing capacity remains at 3,946 kg (8,700 lb).
The 2026 Durango R/T 392 Launch Edition—that’s its full, official name—also features a performance suspension with adaptive damping, Brembo brakes with six-piston calipers up front and four-piston calipers in the rear, an electronic limited-slip rear differential, a performance exhaust system, and SRT drive modes.
It stands out visually with red “392” badges on the fenders, silver accents, and a rear spoiler unique to this version. Its 20-inch wheels are fitted with 295 Pirelli Scorpion Zero Run-Flat tires. A new body color called Machine Green has been added to the lineup.
Inside, the vehicle features Nappa leather and suede seats with heating and ventilation in the front, as well as heated captain’s chairs in the second row. Customers can add the Blacktop package for a darker look.
Another option is the Premium trim, which ups the ante with a 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, leather on the dashboard and door panels, carbon-fiber interior accents, a suede headliner, a sunroof, upgraded brake rotors, and a towing package, not to mention a full suite of driver-assistance features.
The Canadian price for the 2026 Dodge Durango R/T 392 Launch Edition will be announced at a later date. For reference, here are the prices for the rest of the lineup:
