The 2027 Toyota Tundra gets a refresh and adds a Trailhunter trim
The full-size Toyota Tundra pickup truck, which holds its own in a segment overwhelmingly dominated by American automakers, is getting an update for the upcoming 2027 model year.
The designers have slightly redesigned the front end to give it a look that’s both more modern and more rugged, emphasizing vertical lines. This is most noticeable in the bumper, which also incorporates tow hooks. Once again, the grille varies from one version to another.
It's also worth noting that the LED light bar mounted on the grille of some Tundra models has been upgraded for increased brightness, and that the optional RIGID fog lights provide better illumination.
The Trailhunter Treatment
Following in the Tacoma’s footsteps, the 2027 Tundra now offers the Trailhunter package. This model lets you venture deeper into the trails… or go where there are no trails at all. While it doesn’t have a raised air intake on the right front A-pillar or a roof rack, it does come equipped with 265/70R18 Michelin LTX Trail tires, an upgraded Old Man Emu suspension, and additional underbody protection.
It can also be recognized by its bronze-colored wheels and exclusive emblems. Inside, the driver will benefit from a multi-terrain selector, a crawl control feature, and a lockable rear differential.
In short, keep in mind that the Tundra Trailhunter loves adventure, but doesn’t claim to be an expert in major expeditions like its little brother. It’s based on the SR5 model, and its price tag shouldn’t place it near the top of the lineup.
State-of-the-art infotainment and safety features
The 2027 Tundra also features the latest version of Toyota’s multimedia system, which debuted in the new RAV4 and offers a user experience more akin to that of a smartphone, with customizable widgets on the home screen. It also includes new built-in voice assistant features that enable faster responses to “Hello Toyota” commands.
At the same time, the Tundra now comes standard with a 14-inch display and a drive recorder. When the drive recorder is activated, the vehicle’s exterior cameras (front/rear or panoramic view monitor, if equipped) record 20-second clips, either on demand or automatically whenever an event occurs.
The digital key feature has been enhanced to allow for various ways of using and sharing it; a 2.4-kW inverter in the Tundra Hybrid models can power tools, equipment, and recreational gear; and the latest version of the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS 4.0) suite of active safety systems is now available.

Pricing for the 2027 Toyota Tundra will be announced this fall, but the challenge of standing out remains significant. Keep in mind that its GM rivals, the Chevrolet Silverado and the GMC Sierra, are launching a new generation. The Ram 1500, meanwhile, is making significant additions to its lineup for 2027. And of course, the Ford F-150 always has new tricks up its sleeve.
Yes, the Tundra has a reputation as a reliable pickup truck, but that reputation has been somewhat tarnished since the launch of the new generation due to problems and recalls involving the 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6, as we discussed recently.
