2027 Ram 1500 Rumble Bee: The Return of the Muscle Truck

Twenty years ago, Ram discontinued its original muscle truck, the Ram 1500 SRT10—also known as the Viper Truck, as it was equipped with an 8.4-liter V10 engine producing 500 horsepower. Today, the American brand is launching a line of performance-oriented Rumble Bee pickup trucks.

“In a way, the concept of muscle trucks was deemed unnecessary, but like so many products that have captured the hearts, minds, and wallets of enthusiasts, Ram is fully committed—aiming for maximum performance with a full lineup of Rumble Bee muscle trucks,” said Tim Kuniskis, head of American brands, SRT performance, marketing, and retail strategy for North America at Stellantis.

The engineers’ challenge was to change the driving dynamics so as not to replicate the behavior of a traditional pickup truck. Designed for stability, the chassis is shortened by 330 mm (13 inches) between the two axles—which also improves structural rigidity. The Quad Cab—narrower than the Crew Cab—was retained, as was the 5.7-foot short bed.  

Sporty look

Nothing has been left to chance when it comes to the Rumble Bee’s design. Beyond their sporty look, the various visual elements found on the body serve a practical purpose. The Rumble Bee and Rumble Bee 392 feature an aggressive grille, LED lighting front and rear, 22-inch wheels (20-inch wheels will be available later), and flared fenders. Dual-piston calipers up front ensure the truck can slow down effectively.

The more radical 392 Track Pack and SRT versions feature air intakes integrated into the bumpers. The front diffuser helps redirect airflow under the vehicle and toward the grille, while simultaneously generating downforce. These models are also equipped with Bilstein air suspension, which lowers the ride height by 38 mm. The massive Brembo brake calipers have six pistons, and the tires are wider. Among the additional features found on board is the E-spool button, which allows for controlled drifts and smoke shows. The rigid, three-section tonneau cover is available as an option.

The designers drew inspiration from the 1960s Mopar visual identity to create a modernized Rumble Bee character that evokes Ram’s performance heritage. The logo appears in three versions across the lineup, varying in color, wing design, and attitude. The first Rumble Bee features an angry bee head in satin black and dark neutral metallic gray, with a body inspired by a V8 engine and a pointed stinger. The Rumble Bee 392 and 392 Track Pack models feature this bee with a satin black stinger and a Prowler yellow body. The most intimidating version is undoubtedly the SRT model, with a satin black bee and Spitfire orange stripes, rearward-sloping fenders, and a stinger ready to strike.

A familiar interior, but not too familiar

As for the interior, buyers will feel right at home. However, the Rumble Bee models stand out with their flat-bottom steering wheel, their gearshift—with manual mode—located on the center console rather than on the steering column, and, of course, their exclusive trim. The instrument cluster is fully digital and measures 12.3 inches. The Uconnect 5 multimedia system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, and the 8.4-inch vertical screen is featured in the base model. The 392 features a 12-inch display and adds a 10-speaker Alpine audio system. As for the SRT, it includes a 14.5-inch display and a 19-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system with a 10-inch subwoofer.  

Inside, the SRT features Desert Orange stitching on the steering wheel, front and rear door panels, leather-wrapped dashboard, and shift lever. It also includes 12-way power-adjustable bucket seats upholstered in Natura Plus leather and suede, as well as metal pedals with rubber inserts.

Three V8s on the menu

The entire Rumble Bee lineup is powered by V8 engines. All of them deliver strong performance, offering powerful acceleration and exhilarating sounds. Here are a few figures:

Rumble Bee: 5.7-liter Eagle V8

• 395 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 410 lb-ft of torque at 3,950 rpm
• 0 to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds and a quarter-mile in 14.6 seconds.

Rumble Bee 392 (and 392 Track Pack): 6.4-liter Apache V8

• 470 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 455 lb-ft of torque at 4,200 rpm.
• 0 to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds and a quarter-mile in 13.2 seconds.

Rumble Bee SRT: 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat V8

• 777 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 680 lb-ft of torque at 4,800 rpm
• 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and a quarter-mile in 11.6 seconds.

Note that the maximum towing capacity is 8,890 lbs, while the cargo bed payload is 1,160 lbs. All models come equipped with an 8-speed TorqueFlite transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, as well as a four-wheel-drive system featuring a BorgWarner 48-11 transfer case with variable torque distribution. A limited-slip differential is available as an option.

The entry-level 2027 Ram 1500 Rumble Bee, equipped with a 5.7-liter V8 engine, will arrive in late 2026, while the 392 and SRT models will go on sale in the first half of 2027. Pricing will be announced closer to the launch date, and all versions are assembled at the Saltillo plant in Mexico.
