2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500: New Generation, New V8 Engines

June 18, 2026 — Written by The Car Guide

Full-size pickup trucks are extremely important products. Chevrolet, for example, sold more than 54,000 Silverados in Canada in 2025, making it the fifth most popular vehicle in the entire automotive industry. Ironically, a very large number are imported from Mexico, while those assembled in Ontario are mainly exported to the United States.

After eight years on the market, the current generation is bowing out, and a new one is arriving as the 2027 model. Chevrolet is unveiling it today, but keep in mind that several key details are still missing and that sales won’t begin until late this year.

Seven versions with a redesigned, distinctive style

The Canadian lineup for the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 includes seven trim levels: Work Truck (WT), Custom, Z71 (formerly LT), Trail Boss, Custom Trail Boss, ZR2, and High Country. The RST is no longer available. The same three cab configurations (single, double, and crew) and bed lengths (5.8 feet, 6.6 feet, and 8 feet) are still available.

Each Silverado model features its own unique styling and, above all, a distinctive front end that is reminiscent of the full-size Tahoe and Suburban SUVs. The new headlights and taillights catch the eye, as do the more muscular fenders and their more prominent trim pieces. All models, except for the Silverado WT, which is designed specifically for commercial customers and fleets, come with a dual exhaust system.

The Z71 off-road package (skid plates, hill descent control, off-road suspension) is now standard. The Trail Boss, Custom Trail Boss, and ZR2 are the lifted Silverados designed to tackle the trails, while the High Country model continues to embody the pinnacle of luxury with its distinguished 22-inch wheels and more upscale trim.

Let’s take another look at the Silverado 1500 ZR2, since Chevrolet says it’s more capable and rugged than ever. Visually more aggressive with its special hood and 35-inch mud-terrain tires, it comes standard with electronic locking front and rear differentials, as well as Multimatic DSSV shocks combined with jounce dampers that are equally suited for crawling over rocks and speeding through the sand. The ZR2 Bison edition will be back for the most adventurous drivers.

Cabins packed with technology… and screens

Inside, every 2027 Silverado 1500 features a driver’s cockpit where digital technology takes center stage. In fact, a 16.3-inch center display and a 12.2-inch instrument cluster come standard across the entire lineup. In the ZR2 and High Country trims, an 11.5-inch screen is added on the passenger side, a first in the segment. When you factor in the head-up display and the rearview mirror with a backup camera, that adds up to more than 60 inches of digital display space in total!

Some models feature not one but two wireless phone chargers. It’s also worth noting that the gearshift lever has been moved to the steering column, freeing up space on the “Multi-Flex” console, particularly for unfolding the center armrest to create a work surface (as in a Ford F-150).

In the ZR2 version, the carbon fiber accents and touches of red steal the show. Of course, the most refined interior is that of the Silverado 1500 High Country, available with a light or dark trim package. For the first time, a panoramic sunroof is included. Also worth noting are the genuine wood trim, satin accents, unique seat surfaces, and faux suede upholstery.

Brand-new V8s

Under the hood, the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 returns with a choice of four engines, but two of them are all-new. We’re talking about the 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter V8s, developed thanks to a massive investment and manufactured in Ontario, among other locations. Unfortunately, their power and torque figures haven’t been announced yet, but the company promises a Silverado that’s more powerful than ever. As a reminder, the current 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter engines produce 355 ch/383 lb-pi and 420 ch/460 lb-pi, respectively.

Other options include the entry-level 2.7-liter TurboMax turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which has been upgraded and is paired with the same 10-speed automatic transmission as the other models (previously an 8-speed), as well as the 3-liter Duramax six-cylinder diesel engine.

Some may be disappointed to learn that no hybrid variant is being added to the Silverado 1500 lineup. In fact, the executives who took part in the presentation we attended didn’t seem to see the need to electrify their truck. Let’s wait and see the fuel economy ratings for the new V8s before we judge them. Besides, no direct competitor will be able to challenge the Ford F-150 Raptor R and Ram 1500 SRT TRX, both of which produce over 700 chevaux.

Stay tuned!

As mentioned in the introduction, more details about the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, including power, fuel economy, and pricing, will be shared in the coming months. The 2027 GMC Sierra 1500, its close cousin, will be unveiled very soon. A new generation of their Heavy Duty models will also follow. Keep following The Car Guide so you don’t miss a thing!
