What are the worst roads in Quebec?
Montreal motorists should take comfort in the comparison with Gatineau, which for the second year in a row holds the title of the worst road in Quebec in 2023.
In the Outaouais region, Georges Street in Gatineau received the most votes from users, who also singled out Cook Road in this worst-of-the-worst list, whose trophy had previously been awarded to de la Gappe Boulevard in 2022 in the same city.
Route 329, in Saint-Adolphe-d'Howard, Laurentides, and Route des Fondateurs, in Larouche, Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, took second and third place respectively in the overall rankings unveiled on Tuesday.
"Neglected maintenance, insufficient investment and aging infrastructure are just some of the reasons for the network's premature deterioration," says Sophie Gagnon, Vice President, Public Affairs and Road Safety at CAA-Quebec.
The "Worst Roads" campaign reveals that Quebec's road network fares poorly compared to the rest of the country, with just 56% of the upper road network said to be in "good condition" according to the Quebec Infrastructure Plan 2023-2033.
"Roads are essential to everyone, whatever their means of transport, and are a collective economic asset that must be maintained sustainably," she pleaded.
