North American Vehicles of the Year 2025: the finalists

November 28, 2024 — Written by The Car Guide

The three finalists in each category of the 2025 North American Vehicle of the Year Awards were announced Thursday at a ceremony at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The winners will be crowned on January 10 at the opening of the Detroit Auto Show.

North American Car of the Year 2025

None of this year's finalists came from an American manufacturer, which is hardly surprising given Ford's, General Motors' and Stellantis' lack of interest in this type of vehicle. We find the Honda Civic hybrid, the Kia K4 and the Toyota Camry. The latter two are completely new (the K4 replaces the Forte), while the former returns to the range after several years absence.

Strangely enough, the Camry has never won the title, while the Civic is a three-time champion (2006, 2016 and 2022). The winner will succeed the Toyota Prius/Prius Prime.

North American Truck of the Year 2025

Here, it's the revenge of the Detroit giants. Two mid-size models, the new-generation Toyota Tacoma and Ford Ranger, will go head-to-head with a full-size pickup, the Ram 1500, which is benefiting from a good update. The latter has already won the award three times (1994, 2013 and 2019). Will its new Hurricane engine enable it to triumph again?

In 2024, the honor went to the Ford Super Duty.

North American Utility Vehicle of the Year 2025

The final category this year features three vehicles that are extremely different in terms of approach, design and powertrain. We're talking about the Volkswagen ID. Buzz electric van, the Hyundai Santa Fe three-row mid-size SUV and the Chevrolet Equinox EV compact electric crossover.

The last winner of the title was the Kia EV9.

These awards are determined by a jury of 50 North American journalists, including Antoine Joubert, Gabriel Gélinas and Marc Lachapelle of the Car Guide.
