
Here are the 10 most sold vehicles in the world in 2022
Affected by supply issues, including semiconductor shortages, new vehicle sales fell 1.6% globally in 2022, from 80.7 million to 79.4 million units, according to figures compiled by JATO Dynamics.
However, the growth of electric models continued, especially in China and Europe. With a 66% gain over 2021, their sales reached 7.37 million units, representing 9.3% of the global market.
At the same time, we learned that 32.8 million SUVs found buyers worldwide last year, their market share increasing to 41.3%. Sedans followed with 20%, hatchbacks with 16% and pickup trucks with 8%.
Another interesting fact is that the United States and Canada are the region with the most new vehicles sold per 1,000 people in 2022, averaging 40.6. Japan and South Korea are second with 33 vehicles per 1,000 population.
The most popular brands and models
In terms of brands, Toyota, Tesla, Suzuki and Chinese companies BYD and Chery have increased their market share the most. On the other hand, Nissan, Volkswagen, Honda and Stellantis lost the most. Toyota remains in first place with 13%.
