Whatever the context, putting your money in the right place is always wise. And the greater the return on investment, the better.

Classic car insurer Hagerty is back with its list of vehicles most likely to appreciate over the next year. The 2025 group covers six decades, going back to the early 1960s. Only three American models are included, and they couldn't be more different.

“While most of the things we need and want simply cost more every day, many classic cars also tend to be worth more, meaning that when the time comes to sell them, you have a good chance of recouping your investment, and then some,” explains Hagerty. That's one of the reasons why classic car ownership is accessible to people from all walks of life.”

Below are Hagerty's top 10 used and collectible vehicles to watch in 2025. In each case, the value indicated is in US dollars for example in excellent condition (category 2).

Jaguar E-Type SI 3.8 Coupé 1961-1964 – 182 800 $US

10 classic vehicles that will increase in value in 2025, according to Hagerty
Hagerty

Value up 14.2% since 2019.

Hagerty comments: “If there's one thing most car enthusiasts agree on, it's that they'd own an E-Type if they could find one at the right price. The 3.8 doesn't have the torque of the newer, faster 4.2, but it revs with more zest and grit. This car is a real pleasure to drive, but it's cramped for tall people. Lots of old British parts in a small space, what could go wrong?”

Lamborghini Gallardo Six-Speed 2003-2013 – 157 700 $US

Hagerty

Value up 7.4% since 2019.

Hagerty comments: “It's wonderful to be reminded that owning a supercar hasn't always been about 0-60 times, but rather about experience. We'd forgotten just how good a car the Gallardo is, entirely modern but authentically Lamborghini, with a roaring V10 in the rear without turbos, incredible dynamics even by modern standards and the option of a manual gearbox. God help you if anything breaks, and it's not for those who wish to go unnoticed.”

Ford Bronco II 1984-1990 – 15 500 $US

Hagerty

Value up 4% since 2021.

Hagerty comments: “Second-generation Broncos are still affordable compared to most other vintage trucks. The average age of owners continues to fall, which is not the case for most trucks of the era. These young collectors may be onto something. We like its rugged looks, as well as its simple, easy-to-find components. The driving dynamics are, shall we say, rustic. Plus, it can be hard to find a clean example.”

Datsun 280ZX 1978-1983 – 32 800 $US

10 classic vehicles that will increase in value in 2025, according to Hagerty
Hagerty

Value up 137.7% since 2019.

Hagerty comments: “When the 280ZX arrived in 1978, it didn't follow the same formula as its predecessor. It replaced the sporty nature of the 240Z with that of a grand touring coupé, with a suspension tuned for comfort and an interior made more civilized by plush seats and extra soundproofing. For the new generation of enthusiasts, the 280ZX best fulfils the original Datsun/Nissan mission: to offer surprising performance and sophistication at an accessible price. Cars without turbochargers offer mediocre performance.”

Volvo P1800 1961-1972 – 44 200 $US

10 classic vehicles that will increase in value in 2025, according to Hagerty
Hagerty

Value up 47.8% since 2019.

Hagerty comments: “The P1800 is easy to drive and looks more modern than it is. Recently, we've noticed that more and more people are recognizing the merits of this Volvo. Millennials in particular are interested in the P1800 and are willing to pay more than older collectors, according to our insurance data. We bet this trend will continue. We're surprised it's taken this long for the Swedish sports coupe to catch on. Beware of its expensive engine and restoration parts.”

Dodge Magnum SRT-8 2006-2008 – 32 600 $ US

10 classic vehicles that will increase in value in 2025, according to Hagerty
Hagerty

Value up 39.3% since 2019.

Hagerty comments: “The tank-like Dodge Magnum wasn't called a wagon; its creators preferred to speak of a sporty tourer. No matter, the Magnum was cool, a street bomb derived from the 2004 Chrysler 300C, a mobster in a pinstripe suit finding inspiration in the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. You could say the money was spent where it counts, under the bodywork, where the Magnum SRT-8 has plenty of credibility. It's unique for its time, an affordable rear-wheel-drive wagon. Except at the pump.”

Ferrari 400/412 1976-1989 – 59 900 $US

10 classic vehicles that will increase in value in 2025, according to Hagerty
Hagerty

Value up 50.9% since 2019.

Hagerty comments: “Time and a little perspective were kind to the 400. At the time, some critics described Pininfarina's design as dull and unexciting. Today, part of the 400's appeal lies precisely in this subtlety, this sobriety. Compared to the gaudy, flashy exteriors of some of its contemporaries, such as the Lamborghini Countach, the 400 still looks fresh and modern. The best way to discover the car is to get behind the wheel. The V12 sounds fantastic, but it's held back by an automatic transmission.”

MINI Cooper S 2002-2006 – 12 000 $US

10 classic vehicles that will increase in value in 2025, according to Hagerty
Hagerty

Value up 4.3% since 2019.

Hagerty comments: “This car isn't a consolation prize for budget-conscious young people. It's a pleasure to drive just about anywhere. Along with the Ford GT, the MINI is one of the retro models that ages most gracefully. Besides, don't you want a fun hatchback that doesn't say GTI on the back? Supercharging noises are ubiquitous and addictive, even in town. Repairs and maintenance can be costly.”

Honda Prelude 1997-2001 – 17 400 $US

10 classic vehicles that will increase in value in 2025, according to Hagerty
Hagerty

Value up 87.1% since 2019.

Hagerty comments: “To the uninitiated, the Honda Prelude was never more than a sexy Accord, but those who knew it better appreciated it as a handy, high-performance car worth far more than its price. This last point of view resonates more and more today. As good examples of Honda's sporty coupe become rarer and millennials invade the market, expect prices to rise. The upcoming return of the Prelude in hybrid form will increase awareness of older models.”

Mercedes-Benz G 500 2002-2008 – 53 200 $US

10 classic vehicles that will increase in value in 2025, according to Hagerty
Hagerty

Value up 15.2% since 2019.

Hagerty comments: “Models from the early 2000s, which can be had in perfect condition for well under $100,000, are rapidly attracting the attention of classic SUV enthusiasts. The G-Class has become a luxury staple and, in some places, a bit of a celebrity cliché. Yet you only have to drive one to instantly understand its appeal. An angular, German silhouette is combined with unrivalled off-road capabilities... which you'll probably never exploit. What's more, the V8 is thirsty.”

DeLorean DMC-12 1981-1983 – 75 100 $US

10 classic vehicles that will increase in value in 2025, according to Hagerty
Hagerty

Value up 73.4% since 2019.

Hagerty comments: “Ever since the Back to the Future movies, the DeLorean has become something of a time machine. If you like a low, reclining driving position in soft leather seats, it's your kind of car. But be warned, when you open the doors, there's likely to be a crowd watching and asking questions. The DeLorean looks a lot faster than it is. The rear-wheel drive engine produces a modest 130 hp, but the DeLorean is still a pleasure to drive, with agile handling and a surprisingly comfortable ride. Alas, some parts are simply no longer available.”
