Which vehicles offer easy access to the 3rd row?
Many families need more than two rows of seats. Fortunately, there are plenty of options on the market.
That said, some vehicles offer a more spacious and user-friendly third row than others, as well as easier access to it. Looking for a pre-owned model that meets the latter criteria? Here are a few recommendations...
The first thing that springs to mind are minivans, which, with their large sliding doors, make access to the rear seats child's play - literally. A model like the Dodge Grand Caravan or Honda Odyssey poses no problem for anyone wishing to squeeze into the cabin.
Full-size SUVs also generally offer easy access to the third row, as their rear doors open wider than those of the others. Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Expedition, Toyota Sequoia... you get the idea. And let's not forget the Nissan Armada.
Nissan is a good example. With its patented EZ Flex system, the second-row seat features a push-button fold-and-slide mechanism on the driver and passenger sides, making life easier for rear-seat occupants. It even works when a baby seat is installed. In addition to the Armada, this system can also be found on the Pathfinder.
Any other suggestions? Models like the Dodge Durango, Honda Pilot, Mazda CX-9 and Hyundai Palisade make it easy, too.
Finally, for easier access to the third row, choose a vehicle with captain's chairs (individual) rather than a second-row bench. For children in particular, it's much easier to make your way through the middle without touching anything than to have to manipulate the seats. Most mid-size and full-size SUVs offer 6 or 7-seat configurations instead of 7 or 8. Some add a center console that can be removed (with tools). Please check.
