How do the Dodge Grand Caravan's Stow 'n Go seats work?

The Dodge Grand Caravan has long served Canadian families with its versatility and affordability. Discontinued by the brand at the end of the 2020 model year, it survives to some extent at Chrysler, which has preferred to keep the Grand Caravan name in Canada to designate its entry-level minivan (it's called Voyager in the U.S.).

Like all its peers, one of its main advantages is a very spacious, easy-to-access interior, but there's more. We're referring here to the Dodge Grand Caravan's famous Stow 'n Go seats, a system that quickly and easily maximizes cargo volume. But just how does it work?

These retractable seats, found in the second and third rows, can disappear into the floor to free up more space if you don't need to seat people there. There's nothing rocket science about it, though.

There are no bolts to unscrew or hooks to undo. Here's how it works: first, lift the floor panel and lower the seat's headrest. Next, pull a lever at the base and fold the seat back on itself, then tilt it 180 degrees until it ends up in its compartment and close the floor panel. And that's it!

As for the third row, four clearly identified straps to be pulled in succession unlock the seat, fold it and tip it back into its compartment.In their place, these compartments can be used to store other objects, such as a backpack, skates, toys, etc...

Stow 'n Go seats have become a trademark of the Dodge Grand Caravan, but are also found in the aforementioned Chrysler Grand Caravan, as well as its more upscale sibling, the Pacifica.

And let's not forget that some models were equipped with Swivel 'n Go seats, i.e. second-row seats that swivel around to face the third-row seats, facilitating exchanges between all rear passengers.
