3 good reasons to buy a used Nissan Rogue

October 24, 2023 — Written by The Car Guide

Completely redesigned for the the 2021 model year, the Nissan Rogue may have gained in style, power and technology, but it hasn't lost any of the fundamental qualities that have made it one of the most popular compact SUVs in the country.

If you're thinking of buying a used SUV that's affordable, but not too old, the older generation (2014-2020) deserves your attention. More concretely, here are three good reasons to choose a used Nissan Rogue...

1. Vehicle space

The Rogue scores particularly well with its spacious interior. This is as true for the front seats as it is for the second row, where the seats are easily accessible and slide out over a 9-inch range, which can help prioritize passenger legroom. By the way, the previous Rogue offered an optional 7-seat interior (Family and Technology Package on SV versions), but please understand that this was only a band-aid solution.

You'll also enjoy a fairly large loading area, thanks to a removable panel that can be fixed in various positions, allowing you to organize everything as you wish. The retractable screen can also be stored under the floor. Numbers range from 1,112 to 1,982 liters, depending on the position of the rear seatbacks.

2. On-road comfort

The interior of this Rogue is designed to be friendly and relaxing. Ergonomics are faultless or almost, the driving position is pleasant (with the exception of the invasive parking brake pedal) and the front seats provide excellent comfort (with standard heating from 2018). In the rear, the seatbacks can be reclined for added comfort.

On the road, the soft suspension translates into a smooth ride, if not a sporty, agile ride. The many available safety features bring peace of mind, while optional ProPILOT Assist technology (intelligent cruise control, brake assist to a complete stop, lane assist and more) proves useful and effective on the freeway.

3. Fuel economy

Another reason to buy a used Nissan Rogue is that it consumes less fuel than most of its rivals. Yes, we wish the company had offered us the Rogue Hybrid that was available from our American neighbors, but with its 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine (170 hp) and continuously variable automatic transmission, it's possible to get an average of around 8 L/100 km in optimal conditions with a front-wheel-drive model. Count on half a liter more with an all-wheel-drive Rogue.

Please note: with the new-generation Rogue, Nissan is offering a small, turbocharged, three-cylinder engine (201 hp) that boasts a fuel consumption rating of just 7.6 L/100 km, according to Natural Resources Canada. In reality, however, this powertrain will cost you roughly the same at the pump.
