Summer's not over yet: the GMC Hummer EV goes camping!
GMC is far from finished surprising people with its 100% electric Hummer EV. Today, the company unveils a model tailor-made for expeditions.
Featured this weekend at the Overland Expo Mountain West event in Loveland, Colorado, the GMC Hummer EV EarthCruiser was developed in conjunction with Bend, Oregon-based tuner of the same name. It is aimed at (wealthy) adventure and camping enthusiasts wishing to reduce their carbon footprint.
"Using our years of touring experience, we've made sure that nothing is unnecessary, wasted or out of place," says EarthCruiser founder Lance Gillies. This collaboration with GMC gives us the perfect opportunity to demonstrate how recreational tourism and excursions can go hand in hand with zero emissions."
The centerpiece of EarthCruiser's conversion is a carbon-fiber shelter that is fully integrated into the van's chassis and deploys above it thanks to a triple-insulated pop-up roof. This increases the total height from 2.29 meters to just under 3 meters.
External storage on the left side contains emergency and breakdown equipment. A drinking water tap (with a 51-liter reservoir), auxiliary and ambient lights, and utility hooks complete the package.
Inside, the space reaches a height of 2 meters. There's a double bed, sink, induction hob, fridge, water heater, indoor and outdoor shower, 12 V and 120 V sockets, several storage solutions and a toilet. A 7" touch-screen control panel is also included.
No worries about power: 12-volt batteries and a solar-powered system on the roof provide electricity for around seven days, says the company.
The GMC Hummer EV EarthCruiser will be available next year via EarthCruiser, but reservations are already open. The price is not yet specified. Important to mention: the conversion is not covered by General Motors' new vehicle warranty.
