Beware of the brakes on these recent Honda models
Looking for a used Honda Civic? Perhaps an almost-new Pilot, Passport or Ridgeline? Warning: the company has issued a recall on recent models due to a braking problem.
In some cases, the brake master cylinder could detach from the brake booster, causing a reduction or complete loss of braking power. Nothing to reassure the driver, of course, and considerably increasing the risk of an accident.
A total of 12,246 units could suffer from this problem in Canada. The models affected are the Civic 2020 to 2021, Pilot 2021 to 2022, Passport 2021 to 2023 and Ridgeline 2020 to 2023. In the case of the first two models, we're talking about the previous generation.
If you've just purchased such a vehicle, Honda will notify you by mail and ask you to take it to a dealer to have the brake master cylinder and brake booster inspected. If necessary, the dealer will replace any missing nuts or broken brake booster parts.
If you're considering a purchase, make sure that the manufacturer's recommended corrective action has been taken. The same goes for all other applicable recalls.
For example, all the vehicles listed above, with the exception of the Civic, may have a loose exterior mirror that threatens to fall out. Due to a parts supply problem, Honda recommends taking the vehicle to a dealer only if the mirror is vibrating or completely detached. A second notice will be sent when replacement parts are available and dealers can replace the mirror on both sides.
