A Recall For Most 2021 Audi Models in Canada
Are you in the market for a luxury car or SUV that combines dynamic driving with a very refined interior? Audi is one of the first brands that should be on your list of potential candidates.
A pre-owned model that’s fairly recent, and ideally still covered by the original warranty, would be a good choice. However, be aware that a significant recall was issued regarding many 2021 Audis sold in Canada. The exact number of vehicles concerned is 19,006 in total.
The models impacted are the A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, e-tron, Q5, Q7, Q8, RS 5, RS 6, RS 7, RS Q8, S4, S5, S6, S7, S8, SQ5, SQ7 and SQ8. One hell of a bunch, isn’t it? In fact, only the Q3 subcompact crossover and the TT coupe aren’t concerned by this recall.
In some cases, a software problem can cause the reversing camera to not be displayed on the screen, which goes against the Canadian regulation that requires the rear visibility system to be activated when the transmission is set to the reverse gear.
It goes without saying that this increases the risk of accidents. The good news is that the solution to this problem only involves an update of the infotainment system’s software at the dealership, an operation that barely takes a few minutes.
By the way, a similar defect was found in several 2022 Audi models, but luckily, less than 500 Canadian examples have this problem.
But let’s get back to the 2021 Audi models. The same, or almost, had been recalled previously due to bad alignment of the rear wheels. Then, another recall was issued regarding safety belts equipped with potentially defective self-locking mechanisms.
In a nutshell, before signing anything, make sure that all the corrections for the Audi model you’re interested in have been applied. In defense of the brand with the four-ring logo, it’s the one that was awarded the most first places in the Car Guide's 2021 Best Buys. Their products remain an excellent choice overall.
