55,000 Ford vehicles recalled in Canada for engine problem
The major recall of almost half a million Ford Bronco Sport and Maverick models announced in the USA a few days ago also affects 55,656 units in Canada, we now learn.
The models concerned are Bronco Sport 2021 to 2024. In the case of the Maverick pickup, we're only talking about 2022.
The American automaker is conducting this recall due to a problem with the engine. In some vehicles, the powertrain control module (PCM) and body control module (BCM) may not detect a change in the charge level of the 12-volt battery. As a result, the engine could stall.
The engine may also be unable to restart after the automatic stop-start system has been activated, and the hazard warning lights may cease to function, increasing the risk of an accident.
The solution here is nothing more than an update of the PCM and BCM software, which must be carried out at a dealership. Ford will notify affected owners by mail in the coming weeks.
The Bronco Sport alone already has more than a dozen recalls since its launch in 2021. One of these is to remedy fuel injectors that can crack on the 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine and cause a leak.
