The IIHS finalizes its list of the safest vehicles of 2025
The American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has just completed its list of the safest vehicles for 2025, which includes both 2025 and a few 2026 models.
Thirteen new players have earned the highest distinction, a “Top Safety Pick+” award, for a total of 66. These are the Audi A6 Sportback e-tron, Audi Q5, Audi Q5 Sportback, Genesis G80, Honda Passport, Infiniti QX60, Kia Sorento, Lexus NX, Subaru Forester, Tesla Cybertruck, Volkswagen Atlas, Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport, and Volvo EX90. It should be noted that the latter will no longer be sold in Canada due to customs surcharges.
In addition, three other models received the secondary “Top Safety Pick” award, namely the Acura ADX, Hyundai Palisade (new generation) and Tesla Model 3. They are part of a group of 18.
To be eligible for either award, vehicles must earn good ratings in the moderate overlap front crash test and the new side crash test, an acceptable or good rating in the pedestrian front crash prevention assessment, and headlights rated good or acceptable on all available versions.
In addition, a good rating in the moderate overlap front crash test (which now emphasizes rear seat safety) is required to earn the highest honor.
Some of the models listed above underwent modifications during the year that enabled them to win an award. Production dates are specified on the IIHS website. Examples include the 2025 Audi Q5 manufactured after July and the 2026 Kia Sorento manufactured after September.
