It just goes to show that loyalty can pay off: a Greek taxi driver has been rewarded by Mercedes for all the miles he has driven in his 1976 model car from the automotive company.

Gregorio Sachinidis has climbed the rankings of the longest mileage ever recorded in a private vehicle, according to Auto Moto magazine.

In his Mercedes 240 D, the man drove a total of 4.6 million kilometers, which is about 114 times around the Earth.

The owner purchased his vehicle in 1981 in Germany before transferring it to Thessaloniki, Greece, where he used it as a taxi until July 2004, according to the Mercedes-Benz website.

His achievement did not go unnoticed by the car company, which wanted to reward him for his loyalty to the brand by giving him a brand new Mercedes C-Class.

The only downside was that the taxi driver had to give up the car he had owned for nearly 50 years in exchange.

Mr. Sachinidis finally accepted the offer, and his trusty Mercedes is now on display at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany, where visitors can witness the durability of the car brand.
