This electrically converted DeLorean is ready for a back to the future.
Conversions of classic cars into electric models are becoming increasingly numerous and sophisticated. Even the famous DMC DeLorean is no exception!
The one we want to tell you about today is the work of Electrogenic, a British workshop that normally concentrates on European vehicles, but has made an exception by tackling the automotive icon popularized by the Back to the Future film trilogy. DeLorean owners can call on Electrogenic's services to transform their car, or have the conversion kit shipped to them and carry out the project themselves.
Instead of the anemic Peugeot/Renault/Volvo 2.8-liter V6 producing 130 hp, an electric motor is supposedly available, capable of generating 215 hp. This would halve acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h, from around 10 to 5 seconds.
A 42 kWh battery takes the place of the fuel tank and, according to the company, provides a range of some 240 km, like a basic Nissan LEAF. A CCS-type fast-charging port is also included.
Different driving modes can be activated to maximize performance or conserve battery power. A display added to the dashboard keeps an eye on everything.
Electrogenic also supplies a range of accessories to further personalize and modify the car. Our favorite? A replica of the time convector imagined by Emmett Brown in Back to the Future.
