Ferrari and Porsche worth close to $50 million in Montreal
The Montreal Auto Show 2024 at the Palais des congrès is spread over three floors, as it was before the pandemic, and one of them is dedicated to the many vintage, modified and racing cars on display.
In the Autosport Zone, Quebec businessman and collector Luc Poirier brings back his impressive array of exotic cars, which stole the show last year, and even adds a few bits and pieces.
In all, visitors can admire more than 35 breathtaking models worth a combined total of almost $50 million. Many of these have never been exhibited at the Montreal Auto Show or at any other event, making the detour even more of a must.
From 330 GTC to 296 GTB
The bulk of Luc Poirier's collection is made up of Ferrari cars from almost every era. It starts with a superb 1967 330 GTC, built from the chassis of the 275 GTB Berlinetta with bodywork by Pininfarina. Fewer than 600 examples of this V12-powered coupé left the Maranello factory.
The most modern of them all is a 296 GTB 2023, a hybrid sports car combining a 3-liter turbo V6 with an electric motor for a total output of 818 hp. The 7.45 kWh battery can even cover a dozen kilometers without burning gasoline. How times have changed!
In between is a 2017 LaFerrari Aperta estimated at $7.5 million, and four other cars worth around $5 million each: a 1985 288 GTO, a 1997 F50, a 2003 Enzo and a 2014 LaFerrari. All painted red, of course! And let's not forget the Formula 1 single-seater driven by Michael Schumacher during the 2004 season, worth $1.5 million.
Other exotic brands in the spotlight
Four other gleaming cars from Luc Poirier's collection are not to be missed at this year's Montreal Auto Show. They are three Porsches: a 911 Turbo S 2022, a 911 GT3 Touring 2023 and a 911 Dakar 2024. The latter evokes the German manufacturer's victory in the prestigious Paris-Dakar rally in 1984. Production is limited to 2,500 units, but we're guessing that the vast majority will never venture off-road and play in the sand. Pity.
The last item to be mentioned is a McLaren Artura 2023, the British manufacturer's first plug-in hybrid, powered by a total of 671 hp and offering an electric range of around 30 km. Not bad for a sports car of this calibre.
