The Canadian Black Book unveils its 2024 awards for best retained value

November 4, 2024 — Written by The Car Guide

For the 17th year, the Canadian Black Book (CBB) has rewarded vehicles that retain the highest percentage of their original Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) four years after purchase.

In a sign that used models are no longer as popular as during the pandemic, the industry average in 2024 stands at 67%, compared to 77% in 2023 and the record 80% recorded in 2022.

“The market has made a significant price adjustment over the past 12 months. Our Best Retained Value awards highlight brands and models that remain strong in a volatile environment,” says CBB's Senior Director of Residual Value Strategy, Daniel Ross.

For 2024, the CBB analyzed 2021 model-year vehicles in 15 categories, in addition to five brand categories for the overall ranking.

Among the winners, Toyota took seven awards, including Best Overall Brand in the “Car” category and Best Overall Brand in the “SUV/Truck” category for the eighth year. Its Tacoma pickup won for the 16th year running in its category.

“At a time when long-term value is even more important to Canadians, we are grateful for the trust and loyalty of our customers, and proud of the diverse range of vehicles we offer them,” said Toyota Canada Vice President of Sales and Marketing Cyril Dimitris.

Porsche is the best overall brand in the “luxury” and “electric vehicle” categories, while Genesis takes the honour of being the most improved brand.
