Used electric cars : some suggestions
Are you in the market for a used electric car and drive just under 100 kilometers a day? Are comfort and reliability important to you too? There are a number of choices, as you'll see here.
Before we go any further, remember that the purchase of a used electric vehicle in Quebec is eligible for a maximum government credit of $4,000. The said vehicle must :
- Be registered for the first time in Quebec (i.e. from outside Quebec) and have never received a new vehicle rebate under the Go Green program
- Be equipped with a battery with a capacity of 4 kWh or more
- Be associated with a make, model and version of the most recent equivalent new vehicle with an MSRP of less than $60,000 if the used vehicle is registered on or after April 1, 2020
- Be three or four years old, depending on its model year relative to the calendar year of its registration date in the customer's name
- Have an original new vehicle warranty honored in Quebec, which includes the battery criteria
- Be inspected to assess the remaining battery capacity relative to the original capacity
The first car that comes to mind is the Chevrolet Bolt EV, considering GM's serious marketing efforts, its range of 383 or 417 kilometers depending on the year, and its remarkable reliability. However, its comfort is quite relative.
Then there's the Nissan LEAF, which has a range of 240 to 362 kilometers (LEAF Plus). It's not the most popular electric car and it doesn't have a thermoregulation system, which impacts its range in cold weather. However, because its depreciation is high, it can be a good opportunity.
The Hyundai Ioniq. A little less comfortable than the LEAF, this Korean sedan is technologically more modern. However, it has a range of 200 to 265 kilometers depending on the model year.
Finally, let's mention the Volkswagen e-Golf, which is a sensational vehicle, but lacks the range (200 kilometers).
