Top 10: The Cheapest Hybrid Vehicles in 2026
Hybrid vehicles are all the rage these days. However, using less gas (and polluting less) is one thing, but saving money at the pump is another. In fact, it’s very important to calculate the price difference compared to a conventional model and the number of kilometers you’ll need to drive to make it worth it, based on the cost of gas.
As in previous years, The Car Guide has compiled a list of the 10 least expensive hybrid vehicles on the Canadian market in 2026. The prices listed are the MSRP (manufacturer’s suggested retail price) plus applicable fees. Prices for some upcoming models, such as the 2027 Kia Seltos Hybrid, had not yet been announced at the time of writing.
10. 2027 Toyota Prius XLE AWD – Starting at $41,935
With a truly eye-catching, even exotic design, the fifth-generation Prius’s powertrain combines a 2-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors for a total output of 196 horsepower. Despite the presence of the Corolla Hybrid, this car remains as relevant as ever and comes standard with all-wheel drive. Average fuel consumption: 4.9 L/100 km.
9. 2026 Toyota RAV4 LE – Starting at $40,505
The all-new 2026 RAV4 has taken the bold step of offering only hybrid and plug-in hybrid models. The hybrid models (236 horsepower) come standard with all-wheel drive, even in the entry-level LE trim. Fuel economy is even better than in the previous generation. Average fuel consumption: 5.5 L/100 km.
8. 2026 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Preferred Trend – Starting at $39,216
Hyundai’s midsize sedan costs just $100 more in the hybrid version (192 horsepower) than the gasoline-only model, which has one horsepower less. Since it saves more than 3.5 L/100 km on average, why wouldn’t you choose the electric option? Average fuel consumption: 5 L/100 km.
7. 2026 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid SE AWD – Starting at $39,160
Versatile and reliable, the Corolla Cross offers two hybrid versions (196 horsepower) that are both powerful and very fuel-efficient. It’s easy to see why supply can’t keep up with demand. Incidentally, Toyota Canada has not decided to stop importing this U.S.-built model due to Canadian counter-tariffs, unlike Mazda with the CX-50, which comes from the same plant. Average fuel consumption: 5.6 L/100 km.
6. 2026 Ford Maverick Hybrid XL – Starting at $38,195
After receiving a refresh for 2025, the Maverick compact pickup remains cheaper in its hybrid version than the 2-liter EcoBoost model in 2026 (about $300 more). Its 191-horsepower engine is available first with front-wheel drive, and then with all-wheel drive for an additional $2,500. Average fuel consumption: 6.2 L/100 km.
5. 2026 Toyota Camry SE – Starting at $38,010
Still the benchmark in its class, Toyota’s midsize sedan is available only with a hybrid powertrain, but it proves to be very efficient. The base SE model is front-wheel drive (225 horsepower) , but all other trim levels feature all-wheel drive (232 horsepower). Average fuel economy: 5 L/100 km.
4. 2026 Honda Civic Sport Hybrid – Starting at $37,347
Since 2025, the hybrid powertrain has been available on the Civic’s Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid models, which are just as powerful (200 horsepower) as the sporty Civic Si. Note that the price listed above is for the sedan. However, Honda also offers a Civic Hybrid hatchback, which costs $1,900 more. Average fuel consumption: 4.9 L/100 km.
3. 2026 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Luxury – Starting at $34,816
The only version of the Elantra Hybrid (139 horsepower) available is called the Luxury, but it remains very affordable and, above all, extremely fuel-efficient, as we discovered during a test drive. As always, you have to like its design. Note: A radically redesigned new generation of the Elantra is coming in 2027. Average fuel consumption: 4.7 L/100 km.
2. 2026 Kia Niro LX – Starting at $33,811
Although it lacks a full-size transmission, the Niro has an attractive design, and its hybrid version (139 horsepower) is exceptionally efficient, unbeatable, in fact. Customers can choose from four trim levels, starting with the very affordable LX. Average fuel consumption: 4.4 L/100 km.
1. 2027 Toyota Corolla Hybrid LE – Starting at $32,915
Returning with no notable changes for 2027 and still available exclusively as a sedan, the Corolla Hybrid (138 horsepower) is the least expensive hybrid vehicle in the country in its base LE front-wheel-drive trim. Other trims on the lineup feature all-wheel drive, as a reminder. Average fuel consumption: 4.7 L/100 km.
