The best electric vans in 2025
Among all the electric pickup trucks on the market, The Car Guide team has compiled a list of the models that represent the best buys in this category.
The GMC Hummer EV that started the ball rolling is far from the only model available in 2025. General Motors has launched two more, while the Tesla Cybertruck has finally arrived. On the other hand, the Ram 1500 REV is still a long way off, even though it has been pushed back to 2026. So, here's our top 3...
1. Rivian R1T
In our opinion, the best buy among electric vans in 2025 is the R1T, available in two-, three- or even four-motor configurations. Its power ranges from 533 to 1,025 hp, nothing less, giving astonishing acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (as little as 2.6 seconds!).
Elements revised for 2025 include the heat pump and suspension components. Range is between 435 and 676 km, depending on version. For work, the R1T can tow from 7,700 to 11,000 lb. Its body measures just 4.5 feet, but can be extended to 7 feet by lowering the door.
Our tests revealed steering that was both fine and very precise, which is a nice surprise given the R1T's mass. On the other hand, while the monocoque structure is rigid, we did notice some unwanted noises, a sign that assembly quality could be better. The ingenious 331-liter storage tunnel between the body and cab complements the under-hood trunk for maximum versatility.
Rivian's network of service outlets is still in its infancy, but is still developing. We also have to be careful with prices, which are already higher than average and continue to rise.
In second place, Ford's electric pickup resists the onslaught of GM's new players, who integrate larger batteries to offer a much greater range. Here, the range varies from just 386 to 515 km. In terms of power, we're talking about 452 or 580 hp, depending on the battery selected, which still lags behind the competition.
Otherwise, the F-150 Lightning has little to envy its rivals. The functional interior is almost identical to that of the gasoline-powered F-150, which appeals to a large number of drivers. Space overflows, seats are comfortable and ride quality is very pleasant.
Well, the manufacturer always seems to struggle with the build quality of its new models, but never mind, the Lightning is well finished, ready for work and very competitive.
3. Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV
To complete our podium, the Chevrolet Silverado EV has benefited for 2025 from the arrival of WT and LT versions. Two huge batteries are available, with capacities of 170 and 205 kWh. Power ranges from 510 to 754 hp, while maximum range can reach an exceptional 792 km according to official ratings.
The trunk under the front hood isn't as roomy as Ford's, but still capable of swallowing 303 liters. The special feature is the wall separating the cargo box and the cab, which folds down to create a floor almost 11 feet high. The rear window can also be completely removed. On the other hand, the vehicle disappoints with its finish quality and excessive weight, which affect handling, comfort and structural strength.
At GMC, the Sierra EV made its debut in the top-of-the-range Denali version (more will be added for 2026). Luxury is superior to that offered by Chevrolet, although range is inferior. Overall ergonomics are excellent in both cases. Last but not least, we'd like to highlight the Super Cruise system, which is effective and functional even when a trailer is attached, and the four-wheel steering, which considerably reduces the turning radius.
