The best electric cars in 2025
Among all the electric cars on the market, The Car Guide team has compiled a list of the best-buy models in this category.
Even if the end of federal rebates and the pause introduced by the provincial government have necessarily slowed down some buyers, this market segment remains interesting for those looking for a battery-powered vehicle.
Already top of our ranking last year, the Hyundai IONIQ 6 retains its top position in 2025. Notable changes include the addition of two new colors (Pearl Blue and Matte Gray) and the withdrawal of the rear-wheel-drive Preferred version with Ultimate package.
With its performance, ride comfort and soundproofing, the Korean sedan remains the best compromise in its class at the time of writing.
Curiously, the rear-wheel drive model loses range in 2025 (550 km instead of 581), while battery capacity and wheel size remain unchanged. That said, the range remains convincingly superior to that of the IONIQ 5 SUV, thanks to improved aerodynamics. This excellent air penetration is accompanied, however, by reduced headroom (especially in the rear) and a smaller trunk opening, since there is no hatchback.
The year 2025 marks the return of the Tesla Model 3 (codename Highland) to our podium. The manufacturer has significantly improved the quality of construction and finish. No more creaks on the road, better paintwork and a more plush interior make this a much better car than before.
On the road, we found the handling convincing and the performance energetic. Combine this with Tesla's extensive network of Superchargers, a very good range and a battery that holds its charge remarkably well, and the Model 3 has never been more relevant than it is today.
The main problem with buying a Tesla today is not the quality of the product itself, but rather the political choices made by Elon Musk. These bring with them a heightened risk of vandalism (which could increase insurance premiums), as well as an uncertain resale value. All factors to be taken into account before taking the plunge.
3- BMW i4
Thanks to the Model 3, the BMW i4 has lost a position this year. That said, the Bavarian sedan deserves a closer look. As a good German car, it's all about driving pleasure. Thanks to its precise, communicative steering and efficient handling, it is without doubt the most pleasant to drive in its class.
Already dynamic in rear-wheel-drive form, the car becomes very powerful as you move upmarket, especially the M50, whose power exceeds 500 hp with Boost Mode.
For 2025, the i4 receives a few aesthetic enhancements, new color choices (body and interior) and an updated multimedia system. Nothing to revolutionize the car, but it will keep it in the picture for years to come.
