Elon Musk confirms expansion of Supercharger network despite job cuts.
The cuts continue at Tesla. After announcing the dismissal of 10% of its global workforce in mid-April, the electric vehicle manufacturer decided earlier this week to fire not only its head of new products and the senior director in charge of the Supercharger network but also all their subordinates - some 500 in all.
The news was reported by various US media following an internal e-mail, a copy of which was obtained by The Information website.
Citing the need to be "absolutely uncompromising about headcount and cost reduction", Tesla's big boss Elon Musk quickly turned to his favorite social network to reassure both the company's investors and customers, writing that an expansion of Supercharger charging stations is still in the plans. With a "but":

Tesla will therefore concentrate on improving the existing network and completing sites under construction to ensure that charging stations are always available. On the other hand, the automaker will slow down the pace for new sites.
The decision is already being criticized by many, given all the electric vehicles of other makes that will soon be able to plug in. And some regions continue to be underserved.
According to Tesla, more than 57,500 Superchargers in over 6,200 locations are currently in operation worldwide. Here's what it looks like in a part of the American Northeast, including Quebec:
Speaking of la belle province, Le Journal de Montréal has obtained confirmation from the Ministry of Employment that some forty Tesla workers at the Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville and Montreal stores and showrooms were among those affected by the cuts announced in mid-April.
"The collective dismissal took effect on April 16, 2024," said Jonathan Gaudreault, spokesman for the Quebec Ministry of Employment, which received a notice of dismissal from the multinational to this effect.
