On the occasion of International Women's Rights Day last Friday, a female jury of 75 journalists from 52 countries around the world crowned the Kia EV9 as World Car of the Year 2024.

It succeeds its little brother, the Kia Niro, which won the same honor in 2023.

Five vehicles, winners in their respective categories, were finalists. In addition to the EV9 (utility vehicle), there was the Volvo EX30 (family car), the BMW 5 Series (large car), the Volkswagen Amarok (pickup truck and 4x4) and the Aston Martin DB12 (exclusive car).

Kia's three-row electric SUV was chosen for its trendy design, cutting-edge technologies and ultra-fast and two-way charging capabilities. "The Kia EV9 beat its rivals because it is able to meet the needs of consumers all over the world," added jury president Marta Garcia.

Two Canadian journalists, Regina Chan and Jil McIntosh, are among this group of renowned women.

"The EV9 offers a practical living space for families and a driving experience that comes close to that of a gasoline vehicle but without the emissions," added the second. It should convince many buyers who are not yet familiar with electrification."

The Kia EV9 was named North American Utility Vehicle of the Year 2024 in January.

Then, on March 27, on the eve of the New York Auto Show, we'll find out if it also wins the prestigious title of World Vehicle of the Year 2024. The other two finalists, also with 100% electric powertrains, are the Volvo EX30 and the BYD Seal.
