Toyota RAV4 2024: it feels like the end
How's the country's most popular SUV doing these days? Extremely well, considering its 32% sales increase for the first three quarters of 2023. With today's announcement of pricing and changes to the RAV4 for the 2024 model year, however, Toyota is making it clear that the end is near.
No, the RAV4 isn't going anywhere, but we understand that the current generation launched for 2019 is on its last lap.
The gasoline-powered Toyota RAV4 2024, equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine (203 hp, 184 lb-ft of torque), offers the same LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Trail and Limited versions, all with all-wheel drive. Prices, including various applicable fees, range from $36,581 to $48,181, an increase of $300-400 compared with 2023.
The only novelty here is the Khaki Green exterior and Mocha (brown) interior color offered with the adventurous RAV4 Trail.
As for the RAV4 hybrid (219 hp, 221 lb-ft), eight versions continue to appear on the menu, ranging from $39,391 to $49,471. The limited-edition Woodland version, which features bronze-finish TRD off-road wheels, TRD-calibrated suspension and a few practical extras, gains black-finish front and rear skid plates for 2024, as well as black mirror caps, door handles and tailgate trim.
It too is available in the new Khaki Green color, as you can see from the images. Note, however, that this version increases average fuel consumption from 6 to 6.4 L/100 km, according to Natural Resources Canada.
Finally, as for the RAV4 Prime with its plug-in hybrid powertrain (302 hp, 68 km electric range), all three variants return with a $1,000 price increase, even though no changes are planned. Blame inflation. It starts at $54,581 and climbs to $64,811, again including various costs. And let's not forget government subsidies totaling $10,000 (taxes included).
An all-new Toyota RAV4 is expected for the 2025 model year. While the exterior design is likely to resemble beefier models such as the Grand Highlander, the cabin will feature a completely redesigned layout, particularly in terms of the central interface. Don't expect any major changes under the hood, however.
We take this opportunity to remind you that a new-generation Subaru Forester 2025, as seen at the recent Los Angeles Auto Show, arrives next year as well, and that it will be equipped a little later with a hybrid system derived from the RAV4. Another popular compact SUV, the Hyundai Tucson, receives a mid-term update for 2025.
