Toyota RAV4 2024: five things you need to know
The Toyota RAV4 is Canada's most popular SUV in any category. In fact, the Car Guide team named it top of its segment in 2024.
Without further ado, here are five things to know about the Toyota RAV4 2024.
New colors
The main changes to the RAV4 are aesthetic. The Woodland Edition - which gives it superior off-road capabilities - now features front skid plates. Otherwise, a number of black elements have been added to the bodywork: rear-view mirror shells, door handles and a trim panel on the tailgate.
Khaki green is now available for the Woodland and Trail versions. For the latter, consumers can choose between a black or mocha interior.
A gas engine
The RAV4 is offered with a choice of three powertrains - all with all-wheel drive as standard - starting with a gasoline engine. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder produces 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. It's mated to an eight-speed transmission. Towing capacity is 1,500 lb (680 kg), and up to 3,500 lb (1,588 kg) for the Trail.
It comes in five versions (prices are MSRP): LE ($32,950), XLE ($36,650), XLE Premium ($38,690), Trail ($40,350) and Limited ($44,550). Fuel consumption ranges from 7.9 to 8.5 L/100 km.
Reduce your consumption
Based on the same 2.5-liter engine, the hybrid adds two electric motors (one on each axle) and a 1.6 kWh battery. This configuration delivers a combined power output of 219 hp, with fuel consumption ranging from 6 to 6.4 L/100 km. The RAV4 Hybrid can tow loads of up to 1,750 lb (795 kg).
Here, we're talking about the model with the most versions - eight to be more precise (MSRP): LE ($35,750), XLE ($38,850), XLE Premium ($40,890), Woodland Edition ($41,730), Limited ($46,750), SE ($40,650), XSE ($43,550) and XSE with Technology Package ($46,110).
The rechargeable hybrid
A popular model with consumers, the RAV4 Prime can be driven in 100% electric mode for a distance of 68 km. It takes 2.5 hours to fully recharge its 18.1 kWh battery from a 240 V socket (or Type 2 terminal). The combustion engine and two electric motors generate a combined power of 302 hp. It can tow up to 2,500 lb (1,134 kg).
The Prime is marketed in three variants (MSRP): SE ($50,950), XSE ($55,790) and XSE with Technology Package ($61,180). By the way, the vehicle is eligible for provincial ($5,000) and federal ($5,000) subsidies, for a total of $10,000.
What about technology?
