Toyota bZ 2026 adds Woodland version for adventure
Two days after the announcement of the new bZ 2026, successor to the bZ4X and featuring numerous improvements, Toyota Canada adds a more powerful and adventurous Woodland version aimed at families who like to get off the beaten track.
A sort of riposte to the Hyundai IONIQ 5 XRT, and very similar to the new Subaru Trailseeker unveiled last month in New York, this bZ stands out firstly for its standard all-wheel drive with X-Mode and Grip Control functions (really effective off-road, as our Subaru Solterra 2024 test has already demonstrated), its ground clearance increased to 210 mm, its optional off-road tires and its two engines generating a total of 375 horsepower instead of 338.
A new color palette, exclusive 18-inch wheels and contrasting black trim on the fenders modify its appearance. At the same time, Toyota has added 140 mm in length and 20 mm in height at the rear, resulting in a larger trunk (850 liters) that will delight camping and outdoor enthusiasts. And let's not forget the roof rails that make their appearance to facilitate the installation of luggage or bicycle racks, for example.
The bZ Woodland's maximum towing capacity is 3,500 lb. Obviously, the range will melt like snow in the sun when towing such a heavy load. Otherwise, the company estimates a normal range of 418 km, a little less than the XLE AWD (460 km) and Limited AWD (430 km) versions. Note that battery capacity drops from 77 to 74.7 kWh.
Like all bZ 2026s, this one can be recharged from 10% to 80% in around 30 minutes under optimum conditions using a fast DC charging station, and features an NACS connector for direct connection to Tesla Superchargers. A new battery preconditioning system should speed up charging sessions in cold weather. There's also an 11 kW on-board charger.
In addition to the off-road tires mentioned earlier, the top-of-the-range package on the menu includes a nine-speaker JBL audio system, fixed panoramic roof, digital rearview mirror, ventilated front seats and position memory for the driver's seat and side mirrors.
Finally, the seats are upholstered in a choice of black or stone-brown SofTex imitation leather. The multimedia screen measures 14 inches, and to the left of it, the steering wheel features paddles so that the driver can adjust the intensity of regenerative braking at will.
