Top 10: The most affordable all-wheel-drive vehicles in 2026
Winter isn't over yet, but regardless of the season, many drivers in Quebec appreciate having all-wheel drive or four-wheel drive for better handling and safety. But you still need to equip your vehicle with quality tires...
If you are in the process of shopping for a vehicle and this feature is one of your main criteria, the good news is that more and more SUVs are equipped with it as standard. Certain cars may also meet your needs.
The Car Guide has compiled a list of the top 10 least expensive all-wheel-drive vehicles in 2026 below. Please note that the prices listed include the manufacturer's suggested retail price and applicable fees at the time of publication, but do not include taxes. They are subject to change.
10. 2026 Subaru Crosstrek – Starting at $33,461
The Crosstrek has one of the best all-wheel-drive systems (standard equipment) and a practical format. The basic 2.0-liter engine with average performance has been eliminated in favor of the frankly more satisfying 2.5-liter engine, which explains the approximately $1,100 increase in the base price for 2026.
9. 2026 Toyota Corolla Cross – Starting at $33,235
Highly sought-after, the Corolla Cross is getting a mid-cycle refresh for 2026: new front end, redesigned wheels, heated rear seats, and larger screens. Prices have naturally increased. Under the hood, the 2.0-liter engine can be paired with optional all-wheel drive on the base L trim.
8. 2026 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross – Starting at $32,648
The Eclipse Cross's appeal lies mainly in its price, reliability, and 10-year/160,000-km powertrain warranty. Let's not forget that Mitsubishi's excellent S-AWC all-wheel drive system comes standard on all versions, even the base ES. However, there are cheaper options in the lineup, as we'll see below.
7. 2026 Mazda CX-30 – Starting at $32,413
Mazda's subcompact utility vehicle comes standard with the i-Activ system, while the Mazda3 sedan offers it as an option on the GS version, which costs about $2,500 more. Note that for 2026, every CX-30 will receive improved shock absorbers for enhanced ride comfort, as well as a limited-slip differential that improves traction and stability in a variety of conditions.
6. 2026 Toyota Corolla Hybrid – Starting at $32,320
Offering no fewer than 18 versions and two body configurations (sedan and hatchback), the Corolla rewards buyers of the hybrid variant with the option of all-wheel drive. Average fuel consumption ranges from 4.9 to 5.3 L/100 km according to Natural Resources Canada. A new generation is expected for the 2027 model year, which will increase prices.
5. 2026 Nissan Kicks – Starting at $32,269
The new-generation Kicks now stands alone with the discontinuation of the Kicks Play (front-wheel drive only), which was based on the previous generation. Its 141 horsepower can be controlled by an all-wheel drive system by selecting this option starting with the entry-level S version.
4. 2026 Hyundai Kona – Starting at $31,721
The Kona is a small, affordable utility vehicle that has been very successful, especially in Quebec. Its rear cargo volume is a generous 723 liters. For 2026, the Kona is receiving minor technological adjustments and a revamp of its model lineup. All-wheel drive remains optional on the base Essential model.
3. 2026 Kia Seltos – Starting at $31,031
A second-generation Seltos will hit the Canadian market in the first half of 2026 as a 2027 model, offering more space, technology, and choices (including a hybrid variant). However, prices are expected to rise. In the meantime, the 2026 model of this popular Korean subcompact SUV remains the third most affordable all-wheel-drive vehicle in the country. Just skip the base LX FWD front-wheel-drive version.
2. 2026 Subaru Impreza – Starting at $30,957
The Impreza sells almost 10 times less than the Crosstrek. However, this compact hatchback has the same excellent standard all-wheel drive system and its cargo volume is slightly larger. It should be noted that the four-door sedan has not been available since the 2024 redesign.
1. 2026 Mitsubishi RVR – Starting at $29,848
One of the oldest vehicles on our roads (its current generation is 16 years old!) is also the least expensive with all-wheel drive. Forget the base ES FWD version and go for the ES AWC instead, which has an efficient system and is protected by a powertrain warranty that is virtually unbeatable in the industry.
