This Ferrari F50, which belonged to a famous boxer, is going up for auction
Another prized Ferrari that once belonged to a celebrity is now for sale. It’s a 1995 F50 whose original owner was none other than boxer Mike Tyson.
The car with chassis number 104220 is one of the 55 Ferrari F50s officially produced for the U.S. market (only 349 were made in total). Tyson purchased it at the time along with a Ferrari 456. However, he kept it for only a few months before selling it.
Today, even after changing hands several times, his F50 has only 6,196 miles on the odometer, which is just under 10,000 km. Like the vast majority of F50s that rolled off the assembly line at the Maranello plant, it is painted in the iconic Rosso Corsa.
The car remains in nearly pristine condition, including the rear-mounted 4.7-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine, which produces 513 horsepower and 347 lb-ft of torque through a six-speed manual transmission. Note that it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and has a top speed exceeding 320 km/h.
Certified by Ferrari Classiche, Mike Tyson’s Ferrari F50 will be auctioned on August 15 by RM Sotheby’s during Monterey Car Week in California. Its value is estimated at between 7 and 9 million U.S. dollars, which is equivalent to 9.8 to 12.6 million Canadian dollars at the current exchange rate. That’s about 20 times the original price! It’s worth noting that the record for an F50 was set at 12.2 million U.S. dollars (17.1 million Canadian dollars) at a Mecum auction in Florida last January. With just 400 km on the odometer, the car came from golfer Ian Poulter’s collection.
