These vehicles will retain their value best in 2030, according to Canadian Black Book
Following in the footsteps of ALG (a division of J.D. Power) in January, Canadian Black Book has now identified the brands and new vehicles that are expected to retain the highest percentage of their original retail price in four years. We are therefore talking about 2026 models that will be resold in 2030.
The work is based on an analysis of depreciation trends, market conditions, the strengths and weaknesses of different brands, and the interplay of supply and demand. CBB notes that SUVs, trucks, and electrified vehicles remain at the heart of the market, while established brands continue to excel in terms of long-term value retention.
Among the 2026 winners, Toyota is the number one brand for cars for the fifth consecutive year and for SUVs/trucks for the fourth consecutive year. The Japanese giant has won the CBB award in seven different categories.
Porsche wins in four categories and proves to be the best luxury brand, Kia stands out as the best electric vehicle brand, while Volkswagen wins the honor for the brand that has improved the most.
“Brand strength is being put to the test, as consumers seek out models that offer the best value for money in each segment. They prioritize affordability and minimal cost of ownership,” explains Daniel Ross, Senior Director of Industry Analysis and Residual Value Strategy at CBB. With increasing electrification in the market, residual value is changing. Our residual value pricing reflects these trends and rewards pioneering companies."
