The new Nissan LEAF will be unveiled in June, here's another preview
After 15 years and some 700,000 units sold worldwide, Canada and the USA will be the first markets to welcome the all-new third-generation Nissan LEAF, which becomes a small SUV positioned below the Ariya. A first glimpse was given at the end of March, and the official unveiling will take place later in June.
Today, the company is releasing a series of three short videos revealing further details. In the first, we learn that this LEAF will be the most aerodynamic vehicle ever offered by Nissan, with a drag coefficient of just 0.26. Its silhouette has been refined to this end, incorporating a flat underbody, an active grille flap at the front and wheels with a more closed design at the sides.
There will also be a fixed panoramic glass roof with variable opacity (electronic dimming), like Polestar's, which will also increase headroom.
On the technical front, the CMF-EV platform is shared with the Ariya. Nissan talks of faster charging sessions (expect an integrated NACS connector giving access to Tesla's charging stations) and increased range. For the product to be truly competitive, it will need to exceed 400 km. The outgoing LEAF offers 341 km at best.
“We wanted the all-new Nissan LEAF to offer a truly credible alternative to combustion-powered vehicles. We wanted it to balance emotional and rational appeal, ensuring that it was elegant and bold, while meeting the real needs of families with thoughtful design,” said Nissan's Vice President of Global Product Strategy, Richard Candler.
As mentioned several months ago, Nissan will also launch a plug-in hybrid Rogue (derived from the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV), a new generation of the Sentra compact sedan and a refreshed Pathfinder later in 2025.
Then, in 2026, production of the fourth-generation Rogue will begin, marking the debut of Nissan's e-POWER hybrid technology in Canada and the United States.
