The new Kia EV5 will arrive in Canada in spring 2026
Presented for the first time in Canada at the Toronto Auto Show last February, the all-new Kia EV5 2026 will go on sale from spring 2026, Kia confirmed today, enough to make our American neighbors jealous who won't have the chance to have it.
This is one of three new electric vehicles that the Korean brand will launch on our market next year. Similar in format to the gasoline-powered Sportage, the EV5 will be positioned between the forthcoming EV4 sedan and the compact EV6 crossover currently on sale. And let's not forget the future EV3, already introduced elsewhere on the planet and voted World Car of the Year 2025.
The Canadian models will be produced at the Gwangju plant in South Korea. Prices, equipment and range of the EV5 will be announced closer to its launch.
Kia Canada's Director of Strategic Planning, David Sherrard, has already told us that “upon launch, the EV5 will stand out as an affordable option that meets the needs of modern consumers within Canada's largest automotive segment.”
What you need to know so far
We published two articles on the new Kia EV5 earlier this year, which we encourage you to read if you haven't already. If you haven't, you should know that underneath its mini EV9 looks, it offers much more headroom than an EV6, and space is very good for four occupants.
Facing the driver, a large digital interface measuring almost 30 inches diagonally displays all the information needed for driving. In the pre-production model we sat in, the quality of finish was satisfactory and in line with other Kia products we've driven.
The center console is particularly spacious, the second-row seats fold flat and the rear trunk comes with a compartment under the hood at the front - ideal for storing an adapter or charging cables.
Built on the E-GMP platform like its electric cousins from Kia, the EV5 will not use 800 V technology, but only 400 V. Its maximum recharging power should therefore be lower than that of an EV6 (240 kW). Two batteries will be available, one with 60.3 kWh and the other with 81.4 kWh for greater autonomy, as well as front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions. Another important detail: an NACS charging port will enable connection to Tesla's Superchargers.
Finally, alloy wheels range from 18 to 20 inches, and eight different colors are on the menu, including two new ones for Kia: Magma Red and Glacier Blue. Keep following The Car Guide to find out more about the Kia EV5 2026!
