The Canadian Black Book unveils its 2023 awards for best residual value

December 7, 2023 — Written by The Car Guide

For the 16th year, the Canadian Black Book (CBB) has rewarded the vehicles that retain the best value on the market four years after purchase. In 2023, the industry average stands at 77%, compared with the record 80% recorded in 2022.

"This year, we saw all winners retain more than 82% of their initial value. However, the overall percentage should continue to fall next year as we move further away from the 2022 peak," explained CBB President Yolanda Biswah.

Among the winners of the 2023 awards, Toyota is the most represented manufacturer with six vehicles, and its Tacoma pickup is crowned for the 15th year running in its category.

In the SUV category, the Subaru Crosstrek and Porsche Macan win for the third and fourth year running respectively. Cadillac ends Mercedes-Benz's reign in the luxury car category.

Finally, when it comes to electric vehicles, the Volkswagen e-Golf is the popular model that best retains its initial value after four years, while the Porsche Taycan does the same among luxury models.
