The best family vehicles in 2026, chosen by parents
The Car Guide has its best buys and favorites. Several other publications and panels have their own rankings and awards. Examples include the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) and the renowned American magazine Consumer Reports. The goal is the same: to guide consumers in the shopping process.
If you have a family, another good reference to consult is Parents.com's annual list of the best vehicles. For 2026, more than 150 models of cars, minivans, SUVs, and pickup trucks in 22 categories were considered and analyzed, both on paper and in test drives. In the end, 24 models earned an award and should therefore be prioritized.
Selection criteria include safety features, standard technologies and amenities, rear-seat access, and ease of installing child seats. Winners include gasoline, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric models.
Honda, with five awards from Parents.com, remains a favorite family brand, both for its new models and its excellent value for money. Hyundai follows closely behind with four awards.
General Motors, for whom family vehicles have long been a mainstay, once again distinguished itself by winning six awards for its Chevrolet and Cadillac brands. Volvo, renowned for its elegant family cars and emphasis on safety, took home two awards. Infiniti, Land Rover, and BMW also received awards, while Nissan's safety features earned a special mention.
