The 2026 Honda CR-V will not cost you less than $40,000 before taxes
Inflation continues to hit Honda's line-up, as can be seen with the announcement of prices for the CR-V 2026, which arrives in dealerships this week. The increases are around $500 to $700 compared with the latest adjustments to the 2025 models.
The entry-level LX version with front-wheel drive starts at $40,111 including all fees. In Honda's defense, a 9-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto as well as a wireless phone charger are now included as standard.
To get all-wheel drive, you'll need $42,911. Add another $3,600 to upgrade to the CR-V Sport, which is the other version available with the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine (190 hp, 179 lb-ft).
According to the company, hybrid models now account for over 40% of all sales in Canada. The CR-V 2026 is available in four versions: Sport Hybrid, TrailSport Hybrid, EX-L Hybrid and Touring Hybrid (204 hp, 247 lb-ft). The least expensive will cost you a minimum of $49,032, and the most expensive no less than $54,332.
The latter gains a new Individual driving mode, allowing the driving experience to be personalized with distinct settings for throttle response, steering assistance and more. In addition, all CR-V models except the LX receive a new 10.2-inch digital instrument display, while the all-wheel drive system benefits from improved traction management to enhance off-road performance at low speeds (under 14 km/h).
CR-V TrailSport: light adventurer
The big news for 2026, as we've already mentioned, is the addition of the TrailSport Hybrid version. Priced from $50,432, this model is distinguished by protective trim on the bumpers, a gloss black rear spoiler, orange TrailSport emblems on the grille and tailgate, the option of an exclusive Pearl Ash Green paint finish, and Continental CrossContact ATR all-terrain tires mounted on unique 18-inch Shark Grey wheels.
The interior features a TrailSport logo embroidered on the front seat headrests and molded onto the all-weather rubber mats. There's also ambient lighting in the floor, overhead console, doors and cupholders.
Unfortunately, that's where the modifications end, so no reinforced suspension or increased ground clearance, for example. The roof rack is optional. Another detail: average fuel consumption increases from 6.4 to 6.7 L/100 km, according to Natural Resources Canada. Realistically, expect more than that, as our previous tests have shown.
And the competition?
The Honda CR-V 2026 is one of the least affordable compact SUVs on the market. For example, the difference is around $6,500 with the redesigned Subaru Forester 2025, which comes with all-wheel drive as standard. However, the latter offers only one hybrid version, at $50,863.
You'll also save several thousand dollars with the electrified variants of the Ford Escape, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson and Mitsubishi Outlander. In fact, before you buy a fully-equipped CR-V, remember that you could get a plug-in hybrid SUV capable of driving 50 km or more without burning gas for the same price or less.
As for the all-new Toyota RAV4 2026, on sale late this fall, prices are not yet available, but the outgoing model costs less than the CR-V.
