Unveiled at the latest Los Angeles Auto Show, the new third-generation 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan is expected to arrive at Canadian dealerships this spring. Prices are increasing, unsurprisingly, but given the transformation made to the German compact SUV, let's just say it's reasonable.

Before going further, it should be mentioned that the Tiguan benefits from a revised version of the existing platform, called MQB evo, and features a slightly longer wheelbase than its predecessor. However, its interior is now limited to two rows of seats, removing one way it stood out from most direct competitors (although the optional third row was only suitable for young children).

The designers focused on attention to detail and the quality of materials, in addition to packing in new technologies, while the engineers increased the power of the 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine from 184 to 201 horsepower (enabling it to tow 1,800 lbs instead of 1,500 lbs), reduced the vehicle's weight by 77 kg (170 lbs), and enhanced the standard safety equipment, including the addition of four airbags for a total of ten.

The average fuel consumption decreases from 9.4 to 9.3 L/100 km according to Natural Resources Canada, a modest saving that will continue to make us envy a hybrid Tiguan. On that note, it's worth mentioning that Volkswagen's North American division has already expressed the desire to add a plug-in hybrid to the lineup in the near future. Stay tuned.

The four same versions

The least expensive 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan remains the Trendline model, which starts at $38,695, including the $2,200 transportation and preparation fees. This represents an increase of $1,600 compared to its 2024 counterpart. The 4Motion all-wheel drive is included, along with new 17-inch wheels, adaptive LED headlights, a remote starter, a heated steering wheel wrapped in synthetic leather, redesigned fabric-upholstered seats, a sleek 10.25-inch digital dashboard, and a 12.9-inch touchscreen. Let's not forget the wireless phone charger, dual-zone climate control, and the numerous driver assistance features.

Next, the 2025 Tiguan Comfortline is priced at $42,195. It comes with new 18-inch wheels, an electric tailgate, tinted rear windows, perforated synthetic leather seats with eight-way power adjustments for the driver, additional USB-C ports, and a feature that synchronizes the ambient lighting with the audio settings. There are also more color options available for both the exterior and interior, not to mention the option for a panoramic sunroof for an additional $1,500.

Once again, the Comfortline version is available in an R-Line Black edition, starting at $45,695. Its design is darker and slightly sportier, particularly with the bumpers and 20-inch wheels. Here, the panoramic sunroof is included as standard, along with illuminated door handles and threshold plates.

Finally, the top-of-the-line 2025 Tiguan Highline is priced at $49,695, a $2,000 increase. It stands out on the outside with exclusive 20-inch wheels, more illuminated elements, and an acoustic, heated windshield. Inside, it features a 15-inch central display, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, three-zone climate control, and Varenna leather seats (ventilated and with massage for the front seats, heated for the outer rear seats).

It is also the only model that offers elegant wood trim and an Amber Brown interior decor, along with the practical 360-degree camera system. The same goes for the head-up display.
