Tariffs: Stellantis closes its Windsor plant for two weeks

With the confirmation of automotive customs tariffs, Stellantis has already put its knee to the ground by announcing the closure of its Windsor, Ontario plant for a two-week period.

The union at the 3,600-employee plant, which produces the Dodge Charger, made the announcement on its Facebook page on Wednesday evening.

In his “liberation” address, President Donald Trump confirmed that he was imposing 25% tariffs starting Thursday on all vehicles except those produced on Canadian soil with American parts.

Cars produced in Canada contain almost 50% American parts.

“Companies say there are several issues,” President Trump mentioned during his Wednesday afternoon address.

The union at the Windsor plant added that there would be further schedule changes in the near future.

Trump has mentioned that these tariffs will be used to create automotive jobs in the US. However, moving assembly lines can take between five and 10 years, according to several experts.

Not to mention the fact that these tariffs will cause vehicle prices to rise by several thousand dollars in the near future.
