Should You Buy a Pre-Owned Acura RSX ?
With the rising price of used vehicles, some buyers will turn to older models, or even much older ones. The Acura RSX is a good example of this.
It was basically a revamped and slightly more upscale version of the Honda Civic Coupe. Marketed from 2002 to 2006, it came to replace the Integra, until the day when Acura decided to abandon it in favour of the CSX, a Canadian exclusive equipped with four doors instead of two.
Reliable and Responsive
Among the Acura RSX’s strengths, there were effective 160 and 210-horsepower engines, adequate gearboxes and sporty handling (even more so in the Type S version), as well as a sleek look and proven reliability. The addition of A-Spec elements like more aggressive brakes and high-performance tires also made it more dynamic.
On the downside, these engines were pretty noisy at high revs, the Type S' suspension resulted in a harsh ride, and the rear seats were far from being comfortable. Of course, if you’re thinking about having children, you should go for something else.
The dated interior won't please the tech enthusiasts, but those who appreciate ergonomics and driving comfort will always be delighted by the RSX. Gas consumption is tolerable, with 9 to 10 L/100 km on average.
Mechanically, there’s no major problem to report. Some owners have had to replace the brake booster due to leaks caused by a manufacturing defect. A recall has been issued about this—the only one in the RSX's entire career. Others have reported a bad engine oil pressure sensor.
Possible Paint Defects
In addition, as with its successor, the CSX, cases of peeling paint have been reported, but they're uncommon.
In the end, the Acura RSX is a suitable choice if you’re looking for a reliable and affordable pre-owned sports car. Examples are getting rare, but you can expect to pay between $7,500 and $15,000 for a newer model in good condition.
