Say goodbye to these cars from Lexus and Volvo
Lexus and Volvo enthusiasts, we regret to inform you that some models have just left the market or are about to do so. In either case, we're talking about cars, which shouldn't surprise anyone.
Firstly, in the last few days, Volvo Canada has discreetly removed the S90 gasoline and plug-in hybrid, as well as the V60 plug-in hybrid, from its website. A message indicates that they are no longer available for order, meaning that interested buyers must now turn to remaining inventory or pre-owned examples.
The abandonment of the large S90 sedan was written in the sky. Volvo sold just 31 of them nationwide in 2024, a drop of 79%. Then, the 100% Canadian surtax on electric and hybrid vehicles from China (where the S90 has been assembled since 2018) was the nail in the coffin.
As for the V60 Plug-in Hybrid, manufactured in Sweden, it joins the regular V60, which will disappear in 2023, and the S60 sedan, production of which will cease in South Carolina in 2024. Last year, sales of the V60 in Canada fell by 34% to 406 units.
Looking at the whole range, the V60 Cross Country and V90 Cross Country are now the only two cars you can order. However, they are unlikely to survive much longer. The latter recorded a 20% decline last year, finding only 164 takers coast-to-coast.
Meanwhile, at Lexus...
After a decade on the market and more than 90,000 units sold in 62 countries and regions, the Lexus RC and RC F will officially bow out in December. This was announced on Thursday by Toyota's luxury brand. Just 121 were sold here in 2024.
The 2025 model year will therefore be the last. There are no changes to the V6-powered RC 300 and RC 350 with all-wheel drive (260 and 311 hp respectively). However, in the case of the high-performance V8-powered RC F (472 hp), a Final Edition with mechanical and aesthetic enhancements will be offered. The number of units is not specified.
Available in Canada only in the Incognito exterior colour (gray), the RC F Final Edition features carbon-fibre side skirts, a front spoiler, a rear diffuser and roof, 19-inch BBS light-alloy wheels, red brake callipers and black mirror caps. And let's not forget the active rear spoiler.
Inside, the black and red leather and Ultrasuede interior is accompanied by a Mark Levinson high-end audio system and a 10.3-inch touchscreen. A carbon-fibre “Final Edition” emblem adorns the front console, indicating the production number of each car in this limited series.
The price climbs to $115,400 including expenses, an increase of almost $13,000 over the RC F 2024 equipped with the Performance Package.
