Quebecers' most sought-after used vehicles in 2024

Another year has come to an end, but before we turn our full attention to 2025, let's take a look back at the last twelve months, particularly in the used vehicle market.

Of course, the reality isn't the same as it was during the pandemic, and neither are prices. Still, inventories remain more limited and the average vehicle in the province costs over $35,000. Not to mention high interest rates.

But have consumer trends and preferences changed? And what kinds of models were Quebecers looking for most in 2024? To find out, we analyzed the most visited pages on Otogo.ca throughout the year.

We won't surprise anyone by starting by saying that SUVs are the most sought-after vehicle type. In 2024, once again, their ads were consulted at least twice as often as those in any other category. Pickup trucks come second, ahead of sedans and hatchbacks. Sports coupes and convertibles follow. Vans and station wagons remain far behind in the search.

A majority of people were looking for used vehicles between three and five years old (model years 2020 to 2022). However, given the high price of new vehicles, barely used vehicles (model year 2023) were also in high demand. Reasons include completed initial depreciation, lower mileage, better condition and an original manufacturer's warranty still valid.

Since used vehicles between three and five years old are the most popular, this also results in a maximum number of searches in the 30,000 to 60,000 km mileage brackets. As in previous years, there are still many page views in each of the other brackets up to 100,000 km, after which a marked, gradual decline is observed.

As for prices, according to Otogo statistics, models ranging from $20,000 to $30,000 were the most sought-after in 2024, closely followed by those between $15,000 and $20,000. Finally, as we discussed some time ago, $10,000 seems to have become the new benchmark for a first-time buyer or student. The numerous searches carried out around this amount over the past year bear this out.
