Porsche considers a new SUV to replace the gas-powered Macan
Porsche's plans, like those of many other carmakers, are constantly changing, due to faltering demand for electric vehicles and a difficult economic context, not to mention the issue of tariffs. We have further proof of this today.
As part of its annual 2025 conference, where it gave an overview of its product range for the years to come, the German manufacturer insisted that it will continue to offer combustion engines in all its niches well beyond 2030. Above all, he raised the possibility of creating an all-new SUV to replace the gasoline-powered Macan. A second-generation Macan is now out of the question.
So, when the regular Macan bows out next year, only the electric Macan will survive. The new SUV that could be added to the catalog, somewhere between now and the end of this decade, would offer both gasoline and hybrid powertrains, said Porsche CEO Oliver Blume.
In order to take advantage of existing synergies, it would be highly likely that the vehicle in question would be based on the same PPC (Premium Platform Combustion) architecture as the new third-generation Audi Q5 2025. Of course, it would be adapted to ensure Porsche-like driving pleasure. Naturally, the design would also be different from what we're used to.
As for the Cayenne mid-size SUV, the company mentioned that the current generation will remain in place with its conventional and electrified mechanicals long after 2030, and that the new electric Cayenne to come will be sold alongside it, also offering classic and coupe configurations. However, there was no mention of the future prestige SUV that we've been hearing about for some years now.
By the way, it's only after the release of the electric Cayenne that Porsche will launch the famous electric sports cars to replace the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman, as confirmed today.

Porsche expects its worldwide sales to continue to decline in 2025, following a 3% drop in 2024. Additional investments of 800 million euros (C$1.25 billion) are planned for the development of new models and software, among other things, but this will force it to eliminate around 1,900 jobs by 2029.
