Jeep slashes the price of the Grand Cherokee 4xe, making it eligible for rebates

Faced with a significant drop in sales of the Jeep brand, and of the Grand Cherokee in particular, Stellantis Canada has been offering manufacturer rebates for some time now, including on 2024 models. But above all, the Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid has just taken a colossal price cut.

The base MSRP of the 2024 model has been reduced from $77,185 to $59,995. In addition, standard equipment has been slightly simplified, and the range has also been revamped. Instead of separate versions like the Trailhawk, Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve, Jeep now replaces them with big-ticket option packages.

For example, it is possible to add the Altitude package for an extra $15,600, or an Anniversary package for an extra $18,400, as shown on the online configurator.

No official announcement has yet been made, although this is big news. In addition to costing much less, the Grand Cherokee 4xe 2024 suddenly becomes eligible for plug-in hybrid vehicle subsidies: $2,500 from the federal government and $5,000 from the Quebec government, for a total of $7,500 (taxes included).

The Car Guide obtained the following statement from Bill Peffer, Senior Vice President and Head of the Jeep brand in North America:

“We know that consumers are struggling with inflation and are looking for more affordable avenues to purchase electrified vehicles. As a result, the Jeep brand in Canada has taken the opportunity to reduce the starting price of the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe 2024. The new price of $62,290 (MSRP of $59,995 plus additional fees) not only makes our top-performing Grand Cherokee even more affordable, it also allows customers to take full advantage of federal and provincial incentives to purchase electrified vehicles.”

It will be interesting to follow the impact on sales, but one thing is certain: the Grand Cherokee 4xe 2024 is now clearly better positioned in terms of price to compete with its main direct competitor, the Mazda CX-70/CX-90 with plug-in hybrid powertrain.
