Jeep Recon 2026: Five Things to Know
After the Wagoneer S, aimed at a sportier and more urban market but achieving limited success—mainly due to its high prices—Jeep is preparing to launch a second fully electric model, this time much closer to its iconic Wrangler: the brand-new Recon.
Production will begin early in 2026 at the Toluca plant in Mexico, and that’s when we’ll find out its price in Canada (starting at $65,000 in the United States, due to import tariffs). In the meantime, here are five things to know about the 2026 Jeep Recon:
1. Built on Stellantis’ STLA Large platform
Built on the same platform as the Wagoneer S and the Dodge Charger Daytona, the Recon measures 4.91 meters in length, 1.9 meters in width, and 1.87 meters in height, making it closely comparable to the 4-door Wrangler but with a 14 cm shorter wheelbase. The doors and rear windows can be removed without tools or much effort.
The vertical front end features a new seven-slot illuminated grille, U-shaped daytime running lights, and a full suite of LED lighting. Above, there’s a standard dual-pane panoramic sunroof or an optional Sky One-Touch electrically operated roof. It’s also worth noting that the market launch will debut with the Moab version, recognizable by its increased glossy black accents, matte hood surface, wider fender flares, and exclusive badges.
2. Plenty of Power to Spare
The 2026 Recon becomes Jeep’s most powerful model yet, featuring two 250 kW electric motors for a total of 650 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque. For comparison, the Wagoneer S produces 600 horsepower, while the most powerful Wrangler (the 2026 Moab 392) lags behind with 470 horsepower.
True, the weight is massive—2,772 kg (6,112 lb) for the Moab version. However, the Recon can still accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in just 3.6 seconds in Sport mode or 3.8 seconds in automatic mode. Rest assured, engineers have carefully tuned the pedal to unleash all that power in a precise and controlled manner. As for towing capacity, the maximum is 1,496 kg (3,300 lb), which is slightly lower than that of the Wagoneer S and a plug-in hybrid 4xe Wrangler.
3. Over 400 km of Range
Naturally, Jeep protects the Recon’s 100 kWh battery with a full set of high-strength steel plates. The stated range reaches up to 402 km, except for the heavier Moab model, which is limited to 370 km. That’s less than the Wagoneer S’s 473 km, but given its versatility and superior capabilities, who’s going to complain?
When it comes to charging, it takes roughly 28 minutes to go from 5% to 80% using a DC fast charger—that is, about 10 minutes to regain 160 km of range, according to Jeep. At home, using a Level 2 (240 V) charger, the same process takes approximately 6.8 hours.
4. The First “Trail Rated” Electric Jeep
Built for off-road adventures, the 2026 Jeep Recon comes very well equipped. The suspension uses long and short arms at the front and integral arms at the rear, designed to perform efficiently on trails while maintaining a comfortable ride on pavement. It also offers a ground clearance of 232 mm (9.1 inches) with the 33-inch tires of the Recon Moab. The approach and departure angles reach 33.8 and 33.1 degrees, respectively.
Additionally, the Selec-Terrain system, controlled via a switch on the center console, offers different modes (Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand, Rock) depending on the terrain. Meanwhile, the Selec-Speed cruise control manages speed on steeper inclines. In the Moab version, the rear axle’s final drive ratio is 15:1, making it easier to tackle challenging conditions.
5. A High-Tech and Highly Versatile Interior
On one hand, the interior of this new Jeep grabs attention with its 14.5-inch touchscreen—the largest in the entire lineup—paired with a 12.3-inch customizable digital instrument cluster in front of the driver. Don’t miss the mount on top of the dashboard for installing cameras, GPS devices, or other gadgets.
On the other hand, the Recon is designed for versatility, featuring a two-tier center console, a generous compartment under the armrest, multifunction storage compartments with removable elastic straps in the doors, and interchangeable loading solutions. When the rear seat is folded, the cargo volume reaches 1,866 liters, not including the 85-liter compartment under the hood.
